From Here On: Resources for Schools

Are you looking for ways to celebrate Refugee Week at your school? Are you interested in starting conversations with your students about the experience of people from around the world seeking safety in the UK, but not sure where to start?

Following the success of Good Chance and Gecko’s world-class physical theatre project From Here On in 2024, we have created a series of free resources for schools as part of A Day of Welcome; an annual day of solidarity and learning in schools that aims to build a culture of welcome and understanding for people seeking sanctuary. Celebrated by over 550 schools in 2024, it’s designed to support teachers in kickstarting Refugee Week by providing free live events, resources and activities for pupils of all ages.

Although these resources have been specifically created for A Day of Welcome 2025, they can be used throughout the year in line with your school curriculum.

The main resource is focused around a 1 hour lesson for KS3-4 students, introducing them to the history of the Kindertransport, children’s rights and experiences of child refugees today. It is primarily written to be used as part of the Citizenship curriculum, but could also be useful within Religious Education, History, English or Drama lessons. Included in the slides are clips from the film of From Here On, captured at the performances in Harwich and London.

Spiralling out from this, there are accompanying worksheets, extension activities to delve into individual characters' stories more, and an option to watch the full film. Finally there's a 20 minute Assembly Plan for schools to deliver on the Day of Welcome on 13 June itself.

The materials have been developed with Paddy Carr, a Humanities, Religious Studies and Philosophy teacher with over 30 years teaching experience in secondary schools, including lots of resource creation.

You can access our From Here On resources directly by clicking the relevant button below, as well as register for A Day of Welcome to access their full catalogue of resources, activities and events for your school or family. Both are free and open to all!

We can’t wait to hear what you think! If you have any questions or would like to share your experience using these resources, please get in touch with Hannah, Good Chance’s Communications and Marketing Manager at hannah@goodchance.org.uk.
