We at Good Chance have always welcomed conversations between academia and the arts, believing the two are deeply connected, each shaping and enriching the other, with a role to play in making impact and reaching people's hearts and minds. This belief has run through our work, the themes we explore, and the people we've met along the way, from artists, students, practitioners and researchers across different disciplines and backgrounds.

As a small team, we receive a high volume of placement enquiries from people in the UK and overseas. Given our limited capacity, we're only able to consider placements for those at Masters level or above, and only when there's a genuine need within the team. That said we rarely accept placements, and where we do, it's usually no more than one person a year due to capacity. We assess each enquiry on an individual basis for suitability, and successful applicants go through our standard safer recruitment process. As a charity, our budgets are tight and closely tied to the programmes and productions we deliver, which means we're often only able to offer unsalaried placements.

As well as placements, we also receive enquiries for academic research and requests for interviews with members of our team. We're glad to continue engaging in academic conversation and research where relevant, though this too depends on capacity, and we respond to each request case by case.

As a team, we're conscious of a growing appetite for this kind of conversation, and a real hunger to learn more about what we do and how we do it. We've heard deeply moving stories from people who, having watched our plays, found it shaped their artistic and academic journey. It's something we hold dear, and we're always thinking about how we can accommodate more of this as we grow.

Since 2015 we’ve worked with almost 500 volunteers globally, each with a passion to create new kinds of communities that connect people, stories and cultures from across the world. Whether that’s putting up Domes and bringing them to life in Calais, Paris, Coventry and Sheffield through sharing their artistic skills and meeting new people from across the world. Or helping us make and fly Afghan kites and spark new conversations during Fly With Me. From translators and copy editors, to the people who helped Little Amal make her way across Turkey and through Europe, we’re so immensely grateful for their generosity and support.

Our volunteering opportunities are all project-dependent, and not every Production or Public Artwork necessitates voluntary support. We don’t have any opportunities open currently, but we would recommend you join our Newsletter where we’ll share opportunities as soon as they arise.
