“This was my Second Chance.”

Sule, our most recent Stage Door placementee tells us about her experience starting life again in the UK and finding a new community and home with Good Chance!

My name is Sule, I am 23 and I’m from Turkey. I left my home in July 2021 and arrived in the UK to fight for my freedom.

It was a scary and lonely journey. I had to leave my family, friends, education, and everything I knew behind. All I had was a second chance, and I knew it might be my last. Then I met my Good Chance family!

I started as a Communications Assistant on the Stage Door programme and have met so many great people. I got to try new things and learn a lot: like what it means to work behind the scenes in the theatre and charity industries or creating a production from first idea to the rehearsal room through script readings and assistant directing R&D workshops. I discovered my love for playwriting, and I realised there's no limit to how much I can get better! Learning new stuff and experiencing new things everyday has made me feel more confident about myself.

I'm excited as I keep discovering more about myself on this journey. For people like me, who have struggled to find a place in the workplace due to their background and status and life experiences, being part of the Stage Door programme was a game-changing opportunity.

I can't wait to meet new people and have new experiences. I proudly carry the Good Chance flag, and I'll keep holding it high. Every person deserves not only a second chance but also a meaningful GOOD CHANCE!
