"We will find strength in community!"

Words from our newest Change the Word collective: the virtual edition!

Last week we welcomed and celebrated with people from Barnsley, Coventry, Sheffield and beyond to launch our new virtual edition of Change the Word. At our Welcome Party we connected with people through storytelling, poetry and music, with old and new faces returning to share stories, recipes and hope. We even wrote mini collective poems together, full of winter snow, hot soup and rooms of people forging friendships and dancing together into the night. Here are a few for you to enjoy!

Barren trees mark boundaries of landscape.

In this chilled room, I see my bare hands,

we watch our silhouettes dance together.

Friends gather closer, creating a circle of warmth,

drizzling and chilled but loved by the community.

I can oath myself in this drizzle place

that everything will be alright soon.

Our laughter bounces off the horizon.

Snowman is a symbol of human silence.

Protesters chatting behind the window

and homeless in snow.

I drink hot soup every morning.

Eating fish when it snows is amazing.

We find strength in community.

We find strength in community.

Yesterday the sun followed my shadow.

Winter sun shines hope on us.

My friend and I made food together -

brotherhood connects two parts of one whole.

Love increases as it is shared,

sadness decreases as it is shared.

Trust is my favourite advice of my grandmother.

Peace. I have peace. I’m safe.

Change the Word: The Virtual Edition is now running until March 2021. If you want to get involved, there’s still time!
