DONBAS
TAKE ACTION
Created in response to Good Chance’s new production Donbas, in co-production with Theatre503, 45North and in association with Seventh Productions.
Updated in February 2026 to reflect the ongoing full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia.
As we approach the four-year anniversary of Russia’s illegal, full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the human impact of this war is devastating and severe.
At least 10.8 million people* in Ukraine require humanitarian assistance in 2026, including 2.2 million children and 3.7 million internally displaced people.
Front-line areas continue to face the highest humanitarian needs due to intensified shelling and persistent disruptions to essential services. Nearly 90 percent of Ukraine's power generation capacity has been destroyed*, leaving millions facing blackouts and severe winter conditions.
Beyond Ukraine's borders, approximately 5.3 million Ukrainian refugees are hosted across Europe*, many facing protracted displacement, economic insecurity, and an uncertain future.

We’ve put together the following guide with suggestions of how you can channel into action some of the feelings you may leave the play with. Each step, however small it may seem, has the power to make a difference.
Together, we can ensure that Ukraine and its people are not forgotten.
-

Donate
Help fund vital humanitarian aid to people in Ukraine and support Ukrainian refugees directly via the British Red Cross, Children of Heroes, Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain and the Legacy of War Foundation. Your generosity would help these organisations provide food, clean water, medicines, warm clothes, shelter and mental health support to children and adults still living in Ukraine and across the diaspora.
-

Volunteer
Engage with UK-based organizations helping Ukrainian families rebuild their lives, including: Communities for Ukraine (Citizens UK) through the Homes for Ukraine scheme, or support the 'Employment-First Approach' connecting refugees with jobs and housing; and The Ukrainian Welcome Centre to support Ukrainians arriving in the UK with practical assistance, mentoring and digital support.

Explore Ukrainian Culture
One of the most powerful ways to stand with Ukraine is to engage with its rich cultural heritage. Artists and writers like Olga Braga bear witness through their work, ensuring the world does not look away:
Hymns of Resilience is a new EP by Apashe and Alina Pash, recorded in Ukraine in summer 2024 between nights of air raids and shelling. They have also released a captivating music video for the song Kyiv, featuring a traditional Ukrainian choir and a chamber orchestra.
Music Export Ukraine is an independent initiative dedicated to empowering Ukrainian musicians to thrive on the international stage.
20 Days in Mariupol (2023) is the Oscar and BAFTA-winning documentary about the siege of Mariupol in the first weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. The film was also screened at the start of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, showing the impact of culture on decision-making and global empathy.
Forgottenness by Tanja Maljartschuk is an award-winning novel from one of Ukraine’s most prolific contemporary authors, which tells a story of belonging and uprootedness through two exiles across time.
